IAP jointly works with WHO to serve persons affected with Leprosy
IAP Collaborates with World Health Organisation to Help India become Leprosy Free and to end stigma and discrimination against people affected with Leprosy. Leprosy is completely curable free treatment is available, there are no medical grounds for discrimination. As members of the medical fraternity, we have the first responsibility to set the record straight. We affirm and endorse the National Pledge.
There are many myths and misconceptions about leprosy whichlead to stigma and discrimination. Leprosy is a mildly infectiousdisease. It does not spread by casual contact. It is curable with MultiDrug Therapy (MDT) that kills the bacteria and stops the diseasefrom spreading to others. MDT is available in all the Government/NGO health facilities free of charge. Early diagnosis, prompt andcomplete treatment prevent the onset of disability and deformityassociated with leprosy. There are no medical grounds for isolating aperson with the disease.
